The Laguna Mar saltwater lagoon contains microscopic bioluminescent plankton called dinoflagellates that feed on the blue-green algea. As we walked onto this little pier behind the disco on May 10, 2007 our footsteps scared all the fish sleeping underneath. As they swam away we witnessed a spectacular display of glowing splashes. We thought the fish glowed, but figured out that it was the water after tossing in a few rocks. Very cool effect.
